Music, Please! episode 26-09-14
Music, Please! | 14/09/2026 18:00 - 19:00

To coincide with the display of the UK Memorial AIDS Quilt in Glasgow (and the coming Quilt Fundraising club night at The Art School on the 24th Sept), this week's episode is an ode to the UK Boystown Disco dance music genre.

The UK publication Record Mirror ran weekly charts drawn from gay clubs across the UK between 1982 and 1989, during the first decade of the AIDS pandemic, tracking the most popular releases played in Gay clubs across the UK.

At a time when fear, hatred and prejudice against gay people was on the rise everywhere, in private, in public, most savagely in the media and shamefully in government legislation, these soaring, joyful songs created a refuge on the dance floor, in the many clubs where the gay community struggled with devastating loss whilst still bravely seeking joy, love and meaning together.
