hello all, welcome to a slightly odd episode of electric funeral
today i went through a bunch of supposed benchmarks of death metal from the 90s and listened to one random track from each one, and gave you my rambling first impressions in real time. i learned a lot and hopefully you will too, if you're wanting to broaden some horizons in locky d.
i was a little embarrassed to admit i wasn't particularly familiar with most of the albums, and as a generally know-all quiz show contestant type person i find it a little uncomfortable talking about things i'm ignorant about, so i was cringing a lot editing this together but i hope it's entertaining and informative or at least listenable. one major clanger that i can't let go is that at one point i said there were no more swedish bands to play, immediately before introducing the band Tiamat, who are from stockholm so that's a big whoops on my part. förlåt.
one last note, we lost a very special person and a wonderful songwriter in john prine, who recently lost a battle with covid-19. there wasn't really any way of tastefully inserting any of his beautiful folk country songs into this playlist. so i would urge you to go and listen to anything by him and let your heart be warmed in these rough times.
