East Meets West

east meets west

Damo Suzuki's collaborations with Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli, Jaki Liebezeit & Irmin Schmidt as part of Can yielded three of the most influential albums of the 20th century, and listening back to 'Future Days' it is both easy to trace the history of ambient and electronic music in its lush pads and synthetic percussion & difficult to grasp that the recording itself is more than 40 years old.

I have no doubt that in years to come certain more recent collaborations between Eastern & Western artists will be held in equally high regard. From the groundbreaking jazzy hiphop of Nujabes and Cise Star to Fennesz and Ryuichi Sakamoto's innovative ambient soundscapes, seminal work is being done across many genres, with artists from Japan & the West collaborating and laying the foundations for future days.
