Suck My Left One // news
ladyrock and electroclash
This week we play a bunch of new stuff, and a bunch of old stuff. Brand new releases from Berliner's Shirley Holmes and Brazillians Ampex, are followed by some poorly judged christmas music segueing seamlessly into an extended 00's Electroclash nostaligia trip, sparked off by the brand new track from Scream Club and Electrosexual, featuring Sue Denim of Robots in Disguise. Funtimes.

sabrina chap live session
We are pleased to announce that the Suck My Left One live session with neo-vaudvillian and purveyer of radical ragtime Sabrina Chap is now available to listen any time. Playing songs from her new album "We Are The Parade", Sabrina also gives us a piece of her mind, and we also, in inimitable SMLO style, manage to shoehorn in some feminist punk from No Fit State and Witches' Revenge.

ste mccabe live session
Late of Manchester, and now residing in Edinburgh, Ste McCabe is a one-man queercore punk disco machine. Currently touring his EP "Harrowing Breakdown", Ste is going to treat us to a session live in the Subcity studio. At once seething, sarcastic, endearing and funny, Ste sings about religion, politics, feminism and homophobia, all to searing punk guitar and dancealong disco beats. Ste will also be taking over the studio to play us some selections from his record collection, so tune in, as it's gonna be a proper treat.

This week's show (now available to stream) presents a bunch of the scratchy, shouty punk we know you love, featuring Galashiels all-grrrl garage punks SPAT and Italian noise band She Said Destroy!, then segues more or less smoothly (!) into some mostly-female indie loveliness from The Jezabels, Johnette Napolitano, Lizzy Mercier Descloux and LoneLady, amongst others.

fnords live session!
This week we were extremely excited to welcome local surf-punks The Fnords into the studio for a live set. Treating subcity listeners to four of their rip-roaring, jump-about tunes, followed by a chat in the studio, and a delve into their amazing record collections. Woo-hoo!

On this week's SMLO, hear Jack from The Free Heathington occupation talk about the origins of the protest and some of the things they've been up to since the occupation began two weeks ago (including the increasingly infamous "Portergate" incident). Also, as usual, a fine lineup of post-(and pre-)riot-grrrl lady noises including an exclusive white label release from The Fnords.

This week's episode of Suck My Left One is a celebration of the songs that we think sound delightful and delicious. It's easy listening SMLO-style. With new music from Glasgow's EvoL, and London's She Makes War, kazoo-playing loveliness from Beijing's Hang On The Box, with some Breeders on top for luck.

xtina, le tigre and peaches, oh no!
This week, Liv and Kate reveal to the trepidatious world the results of recent "collaborations" between Christina Aguilera, Le Tigre and Peaches. Rip-yer-ears-off-slit-yer-wrists terrible, or catchy pop gold? Listen in to find out. If it all gets too much there's some new Slits to see you through.

venting our camerage
This week Kate and Olivia bust their way into the studio to vent the pent-up rage naturally occasioned by having a Tory in 10 Downing Street. To that end, listen in to hear a range of the finest punk conceived the last time this happened (CRASS, Toxic Waste, The Clash) as well as some other stuff that just made us feel marginally better, if only temporarily (L7's Shitlist, and Team Dresch with Hate the Christian Right). Don't be fooled by their shiny faces, kids. This is gonna get ugly.

sik on your face
The latest episode of SMLO, Subcity's home of riot grrrl, queercore, quirky-one-minute-spew-in-yer-face-hardcore-the-next rock and punk is now available to listen on line. Featuring tracks from La La Vasquez, New Bloods, Japanese Voyeurs and more. This week we also feature West Lothian's answer to tits-out 80s hair rock, The Amorettes (YASSSS!), and are inspired by them to dig out those gems of all-girl LA 80's spandex rock, Pandora's Box.

suck my spill
This week, for one night only SMLO is hijacked by the boys from SPILL. Starting out as a legendary club night for lovers of retro-grunge, punk and riot grrrl, SPILL is now a Subcity show, airing 2-3pm every Wednesday. Get a taste of what's on offer! As usual, do email in at firstname.lastname@example.org while the show is airing with your requests, praise, love and random filth. We love it. xxSMLO

covers, girl-style, now!
This week's episode of the show is dedicated entirely to covers, SMLO-style. Think L7 covering Guns n Roses, Mika Miko doing Black Flag, or Strawberry Switchblade re-interpreting Dolly Parton. We have more tracks lined up than we could conceivably cram into a single show, so we need your input... requests, and also listener vetos will be gratefully received. Contact us in the studio 9-10pm tonight!

best of the summer's new releases
This week's episode sees the return of the full SMLO contingent to the studio, rolling out of some of the new releases we've enjoyed over the summer break. Featuring new stuff from local band Miss The Occupier, plus Manchester grrrlpunks Vile Vile Creatures and ex-Electrelane afro-beat post-punk fusion from the excellent Trash Kit. Also featuring a resurrection of the Segment of the Dead, with this week's zombie-themed offering showing what happens when the drummer from Sepultura starts dabbling in grindcore-disco... yes, it's Mix Hell.

loud noise, new music
On this week's show Kate & Olivia present a cornucopia of new and old noise, including shiny new tracks from Glasgow punks Doves of Disorder, all-girl Italian harcore 4-piece Sorelle Pestilenza and Melbourne shoulder-padded glampunks Suzanne Grae & the Katies.
If that's not enough, this week's Segment Of The Dead (where we play a new song about zombies every week) features some classic White Zombie, and if you're loving the cheese, listen in for some old-school Marie & Cherie Currie.
Tune in next week to win free stuff!

lock up your daughters
Well, tweak my nipples and call me a lesbag... this week on Suck My Left One, it's a takeover by Lucy and Sophie, editors of Glasgow's Lock Up Your Daughters magazine. Now renowned for single-handedly rescuing the Glasgow queer scene from a decade of mediocrity in the insipid clutches of the G1 group, for the last year they've been putting out their mag, and putting on notorious debauched disco parties at The Flying Duck. Expect loads of electro-trashy-queercore-disco beats, and a sneak preview of the next edition of LUYD magazine, out in April. Touch it!

Tonight on Suck My Left One, a year of careful groundwork finally pays off. Yes, until now the show has been cleverly disguised as a tribute to all things musically queercore, girlpunk and electrotrashy, but finally it's time to fulfill our real purpose - To expose the radio-listeners of greater Glasgow to an entire hour of lesbian spoken word. Mooohahaha. Featuring a live session from Edinburgh artists The Zorras, and prizes to give away for the best coming out poem of pain you email into us. Join in. We recruit.

suck my favourites
In the latest episode of Suck My Left One, Kate and Olivia treat the random dial twiddlers of Greater Glasgow to a pick of our favourite Riot Grrrl/Queercore/Ska/Reggae/Hiphop/Electrodiscopunk noises. Featuring old favourites from local Ska-sters The Amphetameanies, classic Salt N Pepa, gem-sweater diva Leslie Hall, and of course Bikini Kill, as well as new music from local girl-punks Doves of Disorder, and a sneak peek at the new We Rock Like Girls Don't album, to be launched in Glasgow on the 12th of March at Sleazys. Send us your ladytrash requests at myspace.com/suckmyleftoneradioshow.

Warning: this week's episode of Suck My Left One may include bad language, glamourising of drugs, violence and anti-social behaviour, and explicit sexual content (all within context and appropriate to the audience and hour of broadcast, of course). It may also contain material offensive to minority groups (but only facists and homophobes, we hope).
In the final episode before FM broadcast begins, and anticipating the eagle-eyed scrutiny of OFCOM, Kate and Olivia attempt to get it all out of their system. Those offended by facist-killing and lesbian rimming may wish to skip this one.

rockin' bones: farewell to lux interior
This week Kate and Olivia pay tribute to Lux Interior, who sadly passed away last week. That means lots of Cramps songs as well as a show full of the psychobilly trash-punk bands inspired by their acid/B-movie/comic book/rockabilly/punk aesthetic. We especially celebrate some of the all-girl psychobilly made possible by the ground-breaking music of The Cramps, such as Thee Merry Widows, The Deadutantes and The Formaldebrides. We also find some queer psychobilly, a genre whose time has surely come!
Here's to Lux, surely by now doing the zombie dance.

suck it and see
This week's Suck My Left One showcases some older queer/grrl/lady music that we've loved on the show over the past year... shouty punk from the likes of The Baby Shakers and Comanechi, an 11-minute proggy wig-out from Sleater-Kinney, and some classic Patti Smith, plus a wee taster of folky lesbo spoken word acoustica from The Zorras who will be gracing us with a live session next month.
Get in touch if you have requests for the FM shows (we'll be going out on Thursdays 10pm from the 19th of March). World, beware.

Inspired by the imminent arrival on these shores of Brooklyn all-girl surf-guitar punks The Vivian Girls, this week's show used this as a thinly-veiled excuse to play a bunch of marginally related sounds, including The Fnords, The Carrots, The Shangri-Las, Haight-Ashbury and The Pipettes. This was also a long-awaited excuse to play inadvertent psychedelic fabulousness from The Shaggs. If you've never heard it, listen now. If you can handle it.
Posted at 17:50, 7th December 2008
This week we played a plethora of tunes in celebration of the imminent departure of W. from the White House. It wasn't too smug. Well, maybe a little bit. A bit frazzled from staying up all night to watch the results, so the playlist may have been even more "ecclectic" than usual, but click "listen" to hear anti-Bush, pro-revolution treats from Le Tigre, Sleater-Kinney, Partyline, Saul Williams & DJ Spooky, Public Enemy and lots n lots more.

rock-n-roll disco party
Thanks very much to BaNg!bAng! and Olivia F for steering the good ship Suck My Left One for the last two weeks. This week sees the return of Kate W, shambolic rambling, and schizophrenic play-lists.
The first half of the show will be celebrating the recent release of the 6th studio album of Australian rock collosses (collossi?) Magic Dirt, with a mini-special spanning some of their 16 years in music.
The second half of the show will segue (or more likely lurch gracelessly) into something completely different: disco party! Gold hot-pants at the ready, SMLO will be bringing you some of the butt-shakin'est dance tracks that we've been shimmying to over the summer.

femmodisco vs oldshool punk
Goodness me! Listen to Leslie BaNg!bAnG!, queen of femmodisco, go head-to-head with Olivia, avid proponent of classic punk and ladypunk. There's no losers here, people. Check out the truly eclectic yet fabulous playlist, and click "listen" to plug in.

Welcome back kids. We've missed you, but we're looking forward to serving up all kinds of new punk//disco//grrrlie//queero treats this year. Va-va-voom!
On the 17th the studio was taken over by the foxy ladies from BaNg!bAnG!, Glasgow's finest girlie disco, getting us in the mood for dancing with an hour-long, unadulterated mix of lady-style electro, dance and minimalist disco. Click the link to see the playlist, listen again, and stay tuned for next week's show when they do it all again for ya!
