Just The Tip (of the iceberg)
Lady Squalor // 1900-2000 04.04.12
first show!
Heya,
Started my show Lady Squalor today, and for starters I want to thank Rachael of Kaleidoscope, for coming in and helping me ease my nerves; it was very appreciated. Overall, I really loved it; sharing sounds and information are two of my favourite things, coming together as one in this format. Today's show didn't really have an overt theme, but I would say is a pretty good representation of how my mind works and links through music when I am not mixing it up on the dance-floor or spinning the soundtracks to peoples' pints. I decided to call the show Lady Squalor for that very reason, though it may seem messy, and this show being my first certainly was a wee bit, it is actually very clear and logical to me to jump through genres and sounds when listening to the words or defining personal moments that are equally varied. Tangents like that, along with my some of my favourite records are what people can expect every two weeks.
Also, purely to satisfy a personal nagging, I feel I should note that I forgot to point out that the Baris Manco song was super logical to go into the Mogöllar song because he actually joined up with Mogöllar for 4 months in '71, while the group was known as Manchomnogol. Missing from my sharing of information was also the name of the album that the Group Inerane track can be found on which is Guitars From Agadez (Music of Niger). Next additional note, The Shangri Las were even more of a logical choice to represent Girl Groups after mentioning The Sophisticated Boom Boom, as we took our moniker from one of their tracks. And lastly of the information I feel I left out, the sample was that Claudia and I made the mix for Buff Club's weekly Wednesday night, Different Strokes and can be found in full on the Different Strokes mixcloud or a free download is available through their tumblr. Jus' sayin'...
There I go again, well, I won't be able to ramble on during future editions, when some mates will come through to join me in my conversation. Next time around, one of my favourite people to have music conversations across the kitchen table and behind the decks with is Claudia Nova (of Aggi Doom) whom I have been seen djing around town as part of The Sophisticated Boom Boom over the past 10 months. More on that show soon I'm sure...
Thank you sincerely to everyone that tuned in. More fun to come.
Until next time, Deena
