Matthew Bower

"...dreamlike, with degraded breaths of feedback and metal resonance curdled with halos of harmonic presence that are almost Kosugi-like in their celestial aspect" [ Volcanic Tongue ]

" [Tribulation] spends so long scorching the high-end that it’s probably capable of evaporating water." [ Stylus Magazine ]

Chris Corsano

"an umbilical connection straight to the source of modern musical freedom" [ Volcanic Tongue ]

"Skeletal polyrhythms spill over into flesh-‘n’-blood pulses; cymbals burst around hemorrhaging drumheads." [ Stylus Magazine ]

Heather Leigh Murray

"Heather Leigh's exquisitely violent pedal steel stylings and free vocal improvisations seemed to touch on aspects of both Patty Waters, Lydia Lunch and Keiji Haino's flesh-extensions while resolutely refusing anything approaching previously-articulated tongue" [ Volcanic Tongue ]

"...fingers spider’d slowly around strings; tones splashed like stones tossed to water; vocals deconstructed maternal lullabies, front porch hootenannys, the bluest blues. What was left was nothing but a porch rocker of sound, legs marking time on creaking boards, its motion conveying presence only seconds earlier." [ Stylus Magazine ]

Richard Youngs

"...avant garde strategies not as a massive break with the past but as a resumption of a suppressed tradition, making overt the connection between ‘basic’ folk modes and experimental approaches by working roughhouse musical gestures into sublime new alphabets." [ Volcanic Tongue ]

Nackt Insecten

"Eerie dead-air workings and charged minimal crackle...stilled in a syrup of drone in classic drugged Skaters style" [ Volcanic Tongue ]

GODOT

"Doomy, static, brain-throbbing electronics" [ Volcanic Tongue ]

"deepspace sub frequency grumble...that shifts and builds astutely, retaining a cold aggression while being both attentive and faithful to its stated underlying themes." [ Metalireland.com ]

More details when they arrive, but keep checking http://www.volcanictongue.com and http://www.subcity.org for more info.

This is going to be one hell of a night, and a total one-off. Three of modern outsider improv's most exciting players in one line-up for the very first time.

For more details on all the acts involved, head to http://www.volcanictongue.com and search their names.

Unbelievable.

Cheers Laura - was a fucking crazy night!

I hurt all over today though. Not fun.

Cheers to everyone who came down and rinsed it out - was muchly appreciated. Didn't have much of a chance to speak to anyone really, was busy all night - so apologies for not being much craic!

That headline bill will probably never happen again - bit of improv history right there. Genius.

nacht insekten and godot are both extraordinary bands - they should be played more often on subcity raio!!!
i can't seem to find their music anywhere in major record stores...
maybe i should start looking in underground 2nd hand record stores from now on. By the way, you can find here lots of jem / ibanez information.

Check out either Volcanic Tongue or Monorail for some Nackt Insecten and GODOT stuff, there should be some in stock. I should have a few things lying around the flat which I can throw your way too.

Failing that, I'll be playing a live improv set with local visual artist Leah Miller-Biot on 22nd Feb at The Ivy in Glasgow. Bump on down for that one, should be pretty tasty!
