My concern is with the sheer eating time behind baguette. You can pretty much down a bag of chocolate raisins, however you're looking at considerable chewing to swallow even the lightest amount of bread. This could make a particular difference if there is a sprint finish.

I reckon it should be evened out to a NOM a piece. Or 1.3 NOMs each.

Out of interest Joe, is there a reason why your log in name is wrong, as in is written as 'too' instead of 'to'. Is this for some ironic humourous reason, or could you really just not spell when you first joined Subcity.

Rule question:

Rule 4 states 4. 25% of each compeatitors total consumed NOMs must be constituted of their opponents chosen foodstuff. - does this mean that you must eat exactly 25%, or at least 25%?

If it is at least 25%, then Zoe can technically eat nothing but raisins, as >25% of her NOMs will have consisted of her opponent's foodstuff. Which really not in the spirit of things.

Presumably though, as bread is her specialist subject, it would not be in her tactics to do so.

But if there is a belief that the NOMs are weighted against her, it might be in her interest.

And, strategically, such a switch could make the raisins run out, forcing the Monolith onto bread against his will.

Only if she really goes at the raisins. That would be hardcore.

Back in the dawns of time, I tried to set up an account on subcity and it took about three attempts (can't really remember why now) and therefore every time I set up a new one it had to have a different name; but I wanted to have it as the name of the show, esp as my cohost was also using it.

Now I just find it funny, esp as I'm known as a pedant.

On an unrelated note, here's a photo I found of the Monolith

oooh, could this be the start of a photoshop battle? i've recently got CS4 and would like an opportunity to use its immense power for low grade comedy image manipulation :)

I still think the NOM factors for this bout are wrong. I think they put Zoe at an unfair disadvantage.

I agree. That was an awful lot of chewing. My jaw is very, very sore.

To all the doubters:
I think tonight's close battle proved we had the NOM ratio correct between the foodstuffs. I'd like to think that John and myself, veterans of some 25+ bouts, would be better at judging the difficulty of eating two substances than two rookies who've never been on Eat To The Beat. :P Aside from anything else we sat down and ate some of the food to test it.

Regarding rule 4:
This could probably do with a rewrite as it is a little unclear. The compeatitor needs to eat a minimum of 25% of whichever food they eat the least of, this need not be their opponents food. e.g. if Zoe (chosen food - baguettes) had chosen to eat mostly chocolate raisins then 25% of her total NOMs would have to be baguettes.

You might have to listen again to find out. We'll release the results in a day or two so as not to spoil it for folk that want to listen again.

Thanks to everyone for the 15-20 texts and emails we got. Some of them were pretty funny. Others were just disturbing.

Having now listened again, and without giving it away, can I just say congratulations to the victor, and commiserations to the loser. Quite a battle.

Alright that should be adequate time for you to listen again. If you don't want to know the result read no further...

Zoe 'The Killergams' beat Alan 'The Food Mountain' Gardner by 153 NOMs to qualify for the Last Supper

Zoe ate 396 NOMs of chocolate raisins and 625 NOMs of baguettes to give her a grand total of 1021 NOMs (with 39% raisins).
Alan ate 327 NOMs of chocolate raisins and 541 NOMs of baguettes to give him a total of 868 NOMs (with 38% raisins).

At one point in the match Alan lead by as much as 100 NOMs but Zoe proved that tactics are more important than size and came back in the final ten minutes to secure the first victory for a female compeatitor in Eat To The Beat history. A truly historic day, choc full of meaty puns.

Check it out on listen again.

Can we have a progressive line graph showing both competitors and both their individual choices of NOM and their overall total NOM consumption as well?

And maybe some form of a swingometer.
