After a 6 month hiatus, Subcity Radio returns to it’s on-line roots and gears up for another year of cutting edge broadcasts. Feverishly supporting all forms of music, this no holds barred approach is continued with the station’s clubs and live music events and is no different with the Block Party 2006.
Headlining the main room are The Leisure Allstars, coming straight out of Bristol. The residents at one of the best clubs in the South of England, Native, are on tour to promote their fantastic new mix CD ‘Sex, Drugs & Rock n Roll’ which has almost sold out nationwide and has garnered support from Mr Scruff, Boca 45 and Rob Da Bank. Subcity stalwart Boom Monk Ben will also be on hand to give the faithful what they came for. 2006 has seen the Boom Monk travel round the UK and Europe guesting at some of the best nights in the land as well being picked up by Ninja Tune to do a series of Boom Monk Zen mixes for their world famous Solid Steel radio show. Subcity new blood The Frantic Ant will rub shoulders with live performances from Black History Month bringing the funk and everyone’s favourite (including Jurassic 5) beat box extraordinaire Bigg Taj in the main room.
Downstairs in The Vic Bar will see a different approach to the making the crowd move with sets from some of the city’s best established and upcoming electronic DJs as well as a live set from on of the bands of the moment, Gay Against You. The frantic electro glitch pop of their debut album ‘Muscle Milk’ due out on Adaadat Records in October 2006 is sure to send the dance floor crazy as they take in Subcity as part of their UK tour. The mighty Numbers crew make their Subcity debut after an amazing year that has seen them firmly established as leaders of Glasgow’s vibrant electronic scene. Expect a potent blend of techno, electro, booty, grime and glitch dance floor mayhem. Joining them are two of the Subcity’s brightest hopes - Green Sofa & Freaky Bitches. These purveyors of dirty hard core beats, electro, breaks and ragga jungle are set to become a main stay in the stations future. Both are already grabbing the attention with knock out spots at the Sub Club, Soundhaus and The Arches - let’s see what damage can be done at the Art School.
