Subcity Stage at the West End festival

Postby paulreset » Mon Jun 16th, 2008, 10:36 am

Stumbled across this yesterday afternoon just before 6 and heard some top quality tunage!

Will this be set up again this coming weekend? Got some mates coming over from Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon and looking for some afternoon outdoor drinking shenanigans with good beats as a bonus.

No sadly that was for one day only, though with luck we may return again next year. Fantastic day.

The recovery process has been slow and arduous which is testament to how good it was

Just how good was yesterday!?! Fatty's set was epic and well receptive to the crowd. Good job kid.

Unfortunately we probably won't be able to get permissions for that, but i'm sure there'll be a flood of other possible things to do this weekend.

It was a brilliant day, thanks to everyone who came down and made it happen in whatever capacity, from the djs who kept it up from noon til 7, to the tech geeks, to our volunteer litterpickers and everyone who got up and danced around or just sat and soaked up the atmosphere.

The response was overwhelmingly positive from nearly everyone who came down so to everyone that was out, thanks for making it such a good experience for all.

I'm not sure if they were interested in playing but what was with the lack of Armed Response djs?

Im not saying this cos they are my mates but come on, they have been playing events across Glasgow and Edinburgh such as Split, Pangea, Symbiosis.

Also, their set went down well at the Post Grad so I would have thought they would be a natural choice.

Wish I could've stayed longer, but yeah, a top notch afternoon. My friends have suggested that Subcity do this every Sunday. If only...

Unfortunately Disgruntled of Hillhead would probably have something to say / splatter about that.

All contributors were emailed and advised to email head of events if they wanted to play. As far as I'm aware Armed Response didn't ask to play and there was an exceptionally high interest from other DJs on the station as well.

What a fucking amazing day though. Shouts have to go to:

David Newall, Secretary of Court - for saying yes
Bob Hay, SRC Permanent Sectary - for sorting our shit out at the 11th hour
Phill Zambonini, PA - for supplying a shit hot PA at every Subcity night for tuppence
Wee Cheesy - for lots of running about on a twisted ankle and for only playing 10 mins but still getting the crowd jumping.
MSillars - for keeping me cool and for the last min reach around.

and to all the djs, all around the world..........

hmm, having seen the turnout it would have been nice to play, about ten million times better than the one I played at... sadly rob doesn't understand how to record a mix, and I am too busy with uni to record a new mix for something like this.

As an ex team member and confirmed punter yesterday, I want to thank the team for working hard yesterday to make it as smooth as possible and definitely smoother than previous years.

Congratulations

p.s wee cheesy was a star for getting the rubbish problem sorted too. what a man!

We won't mention the half hour it took the combined brains of Britain to work out how to switch the generator switched on which is an advance last year when we forgot to fill up the generator or the year before that when we had to tap into a generator belonging to a fun fair operator and turn a blind eye when he kicked his son for being lazy.

This year it only took me three records to realise I had sat the edge of the mixer on the rim of the platter and that's why Walter Wanderley sounded slowed down.

Some great sounds yesterday and some great sound sonically thanks to a top class PA.

Last year's was more of a sit-down affair until the last half hour. This year we had hunners of idiots at the barriers for the last 2 hours.

The Felonious Munk set finishes with Kai Winding and Coming Home baby and Euan's set starts with Jonathon Richman and Egyptian Reggae. It needs to be split and Bogey music credited.

Could I have a WAV of the original recording?
