Inevitably I drew condensed milk. It's fine though, Shaun won't know what to do with a pasty. That man is going down!!!!

See you in the final Monolith.

I want to know how this contest will be judged. It's a conundrum worthy of a 1950s maths paper.
If Al eats 2 baguettes and 4 packs of raisins, and Zoe eats 3 baguettes and 3 packs of raisins, who will win the Eat to the Beat competition?

Whatever the method: Monolith you are going *DOWN*.

Alternation? 1 baguette, followed by, say, 125g raisins, then another baguette, and so on? With the opening foodstuff being drawn at random. Or just mix the two together in a blender. I'd really like to see Shaun downing a pint of condensed milk and cornish pasty. Brutal.

This is a Cornish Pasty - just so you've seen one.

This is the first time you see one, the second is on a plate in front of you, the third is in the bin when you can't hold it down.

I think this is the problem with this statement. One cornish pasty wouldn't be so bad, but a lot of them, combined with condensed milk, will be pretty nasty.

The method will be explained in the next few days (probably Saturday) on the Rock Island Line show page, facebook group and this thread.

Essentially it revolves around assigning weighting values to different foodstuffs, where each foodstuff has an equivalent Nibble Of Material (or NOM) value. John and myself are having a taster session at the weekend to establish NOM values for all the foodstuffs. Each bout will then be won by the person that has had the most NOMs at the end. There will be further rules to prevent people from just eating extraordinary quantities of one foodstuff and none of the other, but the details of these will be announced with the full set of rules, alongside a shopping list for those that want to eat along at home.

If you don't want to know the results look away now.

Here's the results of the draw

Shaun 'Sweet Tooth' Murphy - condensed milk vs. George 'The Gorger' Pearson - Cornish pasties

David 'Gastronomic Grey-Area' Jackson - After Eights vs. Thin Joe (Evans) - 'plastic' cheese

Zoe Killergrams - white baguettes vs. Alan 'The Food Mountain' Gardner - chocolate raisins

Check out last night's Rock Island Line for the dramatic draw, complete with a panel of pundits and telephone interviews with all the compeatitors (except Zoe who didn't answer her phone).

what's the shout on 'eat along at home' entrants, exactly, and what if they manage to consume more NOMs than any of the compeatitors?

You're forgetting that most pasties up this part of the world are namby pamby ones. The real hardcore ones should be spiced to the ends of the Earth, be drier than volcanic rock, and stodgier than... a really stodgy thing.

Shaun won't know what hit him...

Well here is another one for you:

there's some good ideas for the final here
Music For Pleasure, Sundays at Midday

Superb sounds including the best of second hand digging and the records that Oxfam couldn't sell.
