Lucid Dementia - Trickery

On their website Lucid Dementia claims to be a electronic dark fantasy rock band. Sounds intriguing, doesn't it? Their new album gives a chance to experience that phenomenal genre.
And, even I was quite skeptical when opening the CD box, first few song quickly convinced me that Lucid Dementia consists of people that know their job well.

Opening track - "Pie" is a quite conventional, late 90's truly pretty electro/industrial track. Even though it's not very demanding it promises quite a good level of the whole album. It already gets better in "Ignorance", the second track. Bitter lyrics, quite a good, melodic vocals, interesting instrumentals and an "old-school" rhythm recall older bands like depeche mode. Next three tracks are also pretty impressive - loud agressive "Heathen" uses simple, sharp guitar riffs filling tunes with emotions. Atmospheric samples help a lot as well, and the vocals are both - skillful, and skillfuly produced. Fifth song - "Fall Apart" is very simple, with a great tension build-up and melodic chorus supported with some good electronica. Definitely one of the best songs from the album. Next few tunes sound somehow similar, but it gets interesting when we reach ninth song - "Deadly Sally", slow, dark atmospheric tune with some classic-horror like intrumentals, very strong, loud chorus. The lyrics sound like if they were derived from the "Twilight Zone" and are pretty amusing. Next song - "WTF" shows that Lucid Dementia finds inspiration in a classic rock form and is not afraid to deal with pastiche. Remaining few tracks also keep high average.

In general - Lucid Dementia sounds quite archaic nowadays, reminding the music we may hear in the soundtrack from the first "Matrix", going back to climates like early Manson, or even Rob Zombie. Lyrics are concerned with human falsity, fanatism, stupidity, etc. And that would be another strong point of the album, particularly taking into account emptiness and a purely hedonistic nature of the most contemporary rock songs. Definitely a good album worth a recomendation for all those bored with hordes of happy-go-lucky indie/electro bands.
Funny accent, silly talking and strange sounds - all in here:
